The Guts 12-Step Plan for Making Sure the US Economy Stays Saved
What does this have to do with Direct Marketing? Simple: as the economy goes, so goes DM.

1. Close the Departments of Commerce and Education. They’re useless, get in the way of real commerce and education and cost trillions.
2. Fire all “czars” and their staffs immediately. They’re useless, get in the way and cost billions.
3. Make every federal, state, county and local board and commission justify its existence. There are thousands of them, mostly all useless in the way and expensive. We need maybe 250.
4. Painlessly remove the stranglehold that civil service unions have on our public money by canceling civil servants’ pensions and lifelong health care. Give their unions the money up front and let them manage all this stuff. Keep an eye on them, of course. Make it illegal for civil service unions to lobby. Negotiate openly, yes; lobby in secret, no.
5. Repeal Obamacare and while we’re at it, close the special private clinic in Washington, the one exclusively for our “elite” class.
6. Enact tort reform now (loser pays), and close 75% of our law schools. We have ‘way too many lawyers. (Nothing wrong with lawyers, but so few of them do anything worthwhile.) Make it illegal for any lawyer to lobby any legislator anywhere for anything. Return to the honorable days of lawyers not advertising. Defrock judges and impeach legislators, governors and presidents who ignore the Constitution they swore to uphold.
7. Stop paying for bloated staffs for our elected representatives. Everyone elected to Congress or to office in any town, city, county or state can cut staff payroll by 10% a year every year for, oh, the next 8 years at which point they’ll be down to about 40% of where they are now. Incoming legislators inherit their predecessors’ cuts. Ditto forall senior civil servants’ staffs.
8. Outlaw new earmarks, cancel all current ones.
9. Jail Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and close Fannie, Freddie and the Fed permanently.
10. Flat income tax. Pick a number: 13%? Fine. But make it 25% for the next 5 years and use the additional 12% for paying down our debt and/or re-funding Social Security. Then back to 13% forever. (Revenue will grow every year.) Cut IRS staff by 90%. Hang legislators who try to spend the extra 12% on anything but paying down debt and re-funding Social Security.
11. Never consider legislation based on what Al Gore says about anything.
12. States shouldn’t have to pay anything for illegal immigrants. The Feds won’t keep the migrants out or send them back and they won’t let the states do it, so Congress should have to figure out how to pay for the problem. When the boondogglers in DC add it all up, they’ll be horrified, or they should be, and the invasion will stop if they have to figure out how to pay for it. States’ citizens will get their hospitals, schools and public spaces back and they can start firing municipal legislators who declare their towns “safe havens” in defiance of federal law. It’ll be fun. Bring in legal temporary workers as we need them and pay them fairly.

Combined annual savings/increased tax revenue? Somewhere around $3,000,000,000,000 (three trillion dollars) a year. That’s about $9,000 a year, every year, for every man, woman and child in the country. We can use $2,000,000,000,000 a year to pay down our debt and return the rest to taxpayers who can spend it with direct marketers.
We are this close }{ to returning to abundance.
